Dr. Bjorn Freter And Dr. Dina Scholars From Germany Pay Courtesy Visit to Vice-Chancellor Prof. I.A. Onimawo

Dr. Bjorn Freter a Philosopher and an independent scholar and his Associate Dr. Dina a medical Doctor from Berlin Germany, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.A. Onimawo on Monday, 9th October, 2017, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.

Dr. Bjorn Freter, had met Dr. Elvis Imafidon from the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, Ambrose Alli University at a Conference in South Africa when Dr. Elvis was away from the University carrying out researches on Albinism in University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Ever since, they had remained communicating. Dr. Bjorn Freter and Dr. Dina, who are in Nigeria for a Conference in Calabar, decided to visit Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and see the University management as promised to Dr. Elvis.

The team which was led by Rev. Fr. Prof. J.A. Onimhawo, Dean, Faculty of Arts accompanied by the Acting Head of Department of Philosophy, Dr. M.A. Izibile and Dr. Elvis Imafidon were warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Management Staff and members of the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

Dr. Bjorn expressed great excitement to be in Ambrose Alli University. He informed the Vice-Chancellor that he would be giving a lecture on “Decolonization and Desocialization” Tuesday, 10th October, 2017 at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. He said that there is need for a paradigm shift of philosophy of both the Westerners and Africans. He stated that no human race is superior to the other and African Philosophy must be encouraged and promoted. He said Westerners cannot say what African Philosophy should be and as such, Africans should determine what their philosophies are.

Dr. Dina, expressed great pleasure to be at Ambrose Alli University, She added that she looks forward to the Mini lecture at the Department of Philosophy, an interactive session where issues bothering on the philosophy of Africa would be elaborately discussed.

Prof. Ignatius A. Onimawo in his response welcomed the German visitors to Ambrose Alli University; he thanked them for the visit and encouraged further discussions to strengthen the relationship between the scholars and the University for research and exchange programmes in Germany.

Vice-Chancellor, noted that the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Linkages would handle such deliberations on behalf of the University. He also, added that he would be in attendance at the interactive session where the German Philosopher would be lecturing on Decolonization and Desocialization at the Department of Philosophy.

The Vice-Chancellor, hoped that the rest of the stay for the visitors would be pleasant, he also wished them well as they visit Calabar for the Conference that brought them to town.

Prof. Onimhawo, Dr. Izibili and Dr. Elvis all took time in thanking the guests for coming and the Vice-Chancellor for facilitating what led to the acquaintance of Dr. Bjorn and Dr. Dina.

Dr. Elvis Imafidon in his speech, informed the Vice-Chancellor that other scholars, he had met at some Conferences in South Africa also expressed interests to visit the University soon and to hold major Conferences in Nigeria and Ambrose Alli University as the host University to such Conferences.
