AAU RESEARCHERS SECURE ₦13.9 MILLION NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (NCC)  GRANT FOR INNOVATIVE MOBILE NETWORK RESEARCH

Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma has recorded another major research milestone with the award of a ₦13.9 million research grant by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to Engr. Prof. A. Obiazi of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, AAU, Ekpoma, as Lead Researcher.

The grant, which falls under the 2021 NCC Research and Development Intervention Programme and was awarded in 2022, supports a cutting-edge research project titled:

Development of an Intelligent Test Mechanism and Management System for Quality of Service (QoS) / Quality of Experience (QoE) for Mobile Communication Networks.

The research team also includes Engr. Prof. O. Sahenvemwen of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and Engr. Dr. Edoghogho of the University of Benin, who are serving as Co-Researchers.

The project is designed to address critical challenges in mobile communication networks by developing an intelligent framework for testing, monitoring, and managing Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE). The expected outcomes of the research include improved network performance evaluation, enhanced user experience, data-driven decision-making for network operators, and the development of locally relevant solutions tailored to Nigeria’s communication environment.

Potential benefits to the Nigerian communications industry include:

  1. Improved reliability and efficiency of mobile communication networks;
  2. Enhanced customer satisfaction through better Quality of Experience;
  3. Reduced operational inefficiencies for network service providers;
  4. Provision of empirical tools to support regulatory oversight by the NCC;
  5. Contribution to indigenous research capacity and technological innovation in the telecommunications sector.

This achievement further underscores Ambrose Alli University’s growing reputation as a hub of impactful research and innovation. At the submission of the report by the Lead Researcher, Prof Obiazi, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mrs Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie commended the researchers for this laudable achievement and reaffirms its commitment to supporting research initiatives that contribute meaningfully to national development, technological advancement, and global knowledge.

In a similar vein, thirty-three (33) academic staff members of the University have benefited from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Institutional-Based Research (IBR) intervention within the year 2025, reflecting the robust and vibrant research culture currently being nurtured in the University.

Many thanks
