PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the department is to train and produce political scientists who will be constantly engaged in self reappraisal and critical re-examination on the mode of the organization of society in particular. This is with a view to creating political scientist whose major focus will be to identify, analyze and find solutions to the political problems of society so that a better and more humane society can be attained. The department intends to produce committed patriotic pan Nigerian and African scholars who will in turn bring these values to bear on the political leadership the country and the citizenry. The department also extends its visions beyond the creation of critical awareness and the mere reflection of political study to functional and development – oriented research. This is to enable students acquire the skills and techniques that would make them relevant to current job demands in the market.
OBJECTIVE
The B.Sc (Political Science) Degree Programme aims at producing graduates who are able to assist in tending the solution of political problems that affect the society at large. Especially I the objectives of the Department of Political Science would be;
In order to achieve these objectives the Political Science programme focuses on clearly defined areas of specialization such as Public Administration, Policy Analysis, international Relations, Theory and Methodology, Comparative Politics and African and National Politics.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Direct Entry Requirements
a) Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five credits passes in the SSCE or GCE or its equivalent as in (a) in UME Entry, of which at least two or three shall be at the advanced level. One of the subjects passed at the advanced level must be government.
OR
b) A diploma with at least a merit pass from Ambrose Alli University or any other recognized University or Tertiary Institution in the following areas; Political Studies, Public Administration, Social Works, Criminology, Mass Communication, International Studies and Business administration.
U.M.E. Entry Requirements
c) Candidates for admission into the four-year degree programme in Department of Political Sciences should posses a senior secondary school certificate or General Certificate of Education or its equivalents, with at least five credit passes which include English Language and Government/History with at least a pass in Mathematics (obtained at no more than two sittings).
In addition, candidates must have acceptable pass mark in the following UME Subjects; English Language, Government, Economics and any one other Arts subject.
