University Management Organises a Mini reception for the 1st Prize Winner of the National Mathematics Competition, Master Odianosen Dominion

On Friday 12th October, 2022, the University Management organized a reception in honour of the 1st prize winner of the recently concluded National Mathematics Competition held at the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta in Ogun State in August, 2022.

At the ceremony, the Chairman, Edo State Chapter of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Dr. Paul Ebhomien, took the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. A.S Adagbonyin, through the various stages Master Odianose went through to emerge the overall National Winner of the Mathematics Olympiad. According to him, Master Odianose scaled through the first stage where he emerged winner at the Local Government Area level; thereafter, he participated at the State level where he also came out in first position, and lastly, he represented the State at the National level and he defied all odds to become the number one mathematician in Nigeria at the primary school level.

Furthermore, he informed the Acting Vice-Chancellor that the State Governor, is planning to host Master Odianosen, and appealed to the AVC to be ready to sponsor them even if it is a 24 hours invitation notice from the Government and that he would appeal to the AVC to personally lead the delegates to the state government house for the proposed state reception for Master Odianosen when the date is announced. He finally appreciated the AVC for the sponsorship of the crew that followed Master Odianosen to Abeokutu for the mathematical Olympiad which was of international repute.

While responding, the AVC was elated and could not hide his joy in appreciating all those who made the feat possible. He recalled the fact that when Master Odianosen won the zonal mathematics competition, the University Management organised a mini reception in his honour, an activity that was again being enacted after the young lad won the National competition. The AVC thanked the teachers of the University Primary School (UPS) for nurturing the boy to victory and sued for the sustenance. He appealed to the Principal and Head Master of the University Staff Schools to keep up the high standards in teaching and producing quality students as they have continued to bring laurels to the staff schools and most expecially, the University. The AVC promised to steadfastly provide the needed requirements to enable the staff schools excel and compete favourably in all external competitions and examinations.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of a cash award by the AVC on behalf of the University to the young awardee as an encouragement and morale booster. On hand to pose for a group photograph with the AVC were the ADVC (Admin), Acting Registrar, Acting Bursar, Edo State Chairman, Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Parent and senior siblings of Master Odianosen, Principal USS, HM and teachers UPS, Head GASWD and the prize winner, Master Dominion Odianosen.
