PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the library and information science programme is to produce graduates that will be knowledgeable in the art of collection, organization, analysis, dissemination and use of records and information. The implications of this basic philosophy are the ready accessibility of economic, political, social and scientific information and the positive correlation between library and information science on the one hand and national development on the other. Thus, heavy emphasis will be placed on
OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of the Programme, which will be by course work and by dissertation are to:
DURATION
The full-time programme shall last for a minimum six and maximum of ten semesters. Part-time studies shall be for a minimum of eight and a maximum of fourteen semesters.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Direct Entry Requirements
a) Three-Year Programme (Direct entry)
(i) Diploma in Library and Information Science or any other acceptable Diploma, with at least Merit pass from a recognized institution, plus five credit passes at SSCE/GCE ordinary level including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
OR
(ii) Pass in at least two subjects at the GCE- Advanced level with at least SSCE/GCE ordinary level creditor its equivalent in at least three other subjects including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.
OR
(iii) Pass at merit level in at least two subjects in the NCE with SSCE/GCE ordinary credit or its equivalent in at least three other subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
b) Four year Programme
(i) Five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings at the SSCE or its equivalent.
(ii) Grade II Teacher’s Certificate with at least merit in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
U.M.E. Entry Requirements
Note: UME subjects shall be any three Arts or Social Sciences or Science subjects
